Rice Syrup

Matco's Rice Syrup is a natural, nutritive sweetener made from rice starch, available in conventional, certified organic and infant grades. It is gluten-free, non-GMO, vegan and hypoallergenic, and comes in DE levels from 28 to 64 to control sweetness, texture and functionality in food and beverage applications.

It is a thick, amber syrup with a mild, malty sweetness, and it earns its place in a formulation by doing more than sweetening: it binds dry ingredients, retains moisture, resists crystallization and adds body, while the label declaration stays simple: rice syrup, or organic rice syrup.

Variants and DE Levels

Lower DE grades (28 to 40) deliver mild sweetness with strong binding, the standard choice for snack bars. Higher DE grades (55 to 64) approach glucose syrup sweetness for confectionery and beverages. Not sure which DE fits your formulation? Send us your application and we will recommend a grade.
Variant DE Range Profile
Brown Rice Syrup 28 to 64 DE Full-flavor, unfiltered, amber
Clarified Rice Syrup 28 to 64 DE Light color, neutral taste
Hi-Maltose Rice Syrup 42 to 45 DE High maltose, controlled browning

Frequently Asked Questions

A nutritive sweetener made by breaking down rice starch with natural enzymes into maltose, glucose and longer-chain carbohydrates, then filtering and concentrating the liquid into a viscous syrup. No added colors, flavors, preservatives or other sweeteners.
For binding (bars, granola): 28 to 42 DE. For balanced sweetness and body (bakery, dairy): 42 to 60 DE. For maximum sweetness (confectionery, beverages): 60 to 64 DE. Send us your application and target texture and we will recommend and sample the right grade.
Yes. Rice syrup, brown rice syrup and rice malt syrup generally refer to the same enzymatically produced sweetener. The word malt refers to the enzymatic conversion process, not to barley, so the syrup remains gluten-free.
Less sweet than table sugar. Depending on the DE level, it delivers roughly half to three-quarters of sucrose's sweetness. Low DE grades are the mildest, which is often exactly what formulators want: sweetness that supports the product instead of dominating it.
Its sugars are glucose- and maltose-based rather than fructose-based, which is why rice malt syrup is generally accepted in low-FODMAP formulation. If your product carries a low-FODMAP claim, confirm serving levels against your certification program using our specification sheet.
Unopened and stored properly it keeps for 24 months. Its high solids content makes it naturally resistant to microbial growth, but once a container is opened it should be kept tightly sealed, cool and away from sunlight. Discard the syrup if you notice a fermented or sour smell, visible mold, or unusual cloudiness.
Yes. Rice contains no gluten, and our process uses no animal-derived inputs. It is also produced from GMO-free rice and is hypoallergenic.
MOQ depends on the packaging type and destination. For first-time buyers we offer sample quantities for lab evaluation before commercial orders.
